Photo Finale

Well, it's been a long project and I am finally done. I might keep going with it though if I find more people that wouldn't mind being photograph. That is was has been the most difficult part of the whole process, finding people to do it and then matching schedules. Now that I will be graduating in August I will have my own schedule to do whatever. It was kind of sad to day today having my last art critique in college. It's just weird. I can do whatever project I want to now, not that I couldn't anyways because I did. But the fact that I don't have someone guiding me telling me what things to fix or ideas to do things differently or add to is what is a little sad. Life is an adventure and I am about to step into the next level. I have learned though that when I start to work I definitely want to keep on using film and developing the negatives, but instead of developing the pictures in the darkroom I would rather scan the negatives into the computer and then edit them that way. The pictures below are a few of my favorites that I took in this project. I just love humor in art.

On a random note....
I was thinking today....actually last night, about accents. Southerners are known for their southern draw and Northerners are known for their .....whatever you call it. But what I was wondering was the extremes. When I hear someone that has a SUPER southern accent, I hear it. Then I think "woah! they are SOUUUUTHERN!" and kinda laugh inside. What I want to know is... do people up North think the same thing when someone has a super Northern accent? Do they think "Woah! they are SO northern!" ??
Just a thought.

This project has been fun to do and hilarious to watch while behind the camera. These are a couple of more pics that I have done this semester.

SIRA's 2009

These are a glimpse of some photos that I took for the rowing team while traveling up with them to Oak Ridge TN for the SIRA 2009 regatta.

This picture is so nerve racking to me. At the starts to each race everyone is lined up with someone holding your boat in place so that everyone is lined up perfectly. All the rowers are perfectly still while listening to the announcer countdown..... 3 minutes......2 minutes.....then they name each crew and then say... Attention!... Go! They always seem to drag it out making your nerves worse. Watching them at the starts made me so nervous knowing what they are going through and remembering when I use to row.

Those are my girls!

Mocha Club

At the beginning of this year I made a New Years resolution. I never make New Year's resolutions just for the fact that If I should start a new year off with what ever that certain thing might be I should already be doing or not doing it. I shouldn't have to start at the beginning of the year, when I could do or not do whatever that maybe instantly.

Anyways, I made one for this year. I have given up unhealthy drinks for the year. Coffee, carbonated beverages, and anything that isn't 100% juice. Basically down to just drinking water, milk, and healthy smoothies and juices without added sugar. It has been a hard task and figured if I could do it for at least a year I could cut it out completely. I did however have 2 beers and 2 pina coladas (in a 5 day span) while in San Juan. But I let that slide since it was on vacation.

Instead of buying an occasional coffee or coke I decided to put my money towards something that I really felt led to give to. When I saw this I thought it was a perfect little something that I could do that went along with my New Year's resolution. I am a college student and don't have a lot of money and was honored that the little bit that I could give did so much for this cause. And this is just a little bit about it....

Darfur has been entangled in a deadly conflict for over three years. An estimated 400,000 people have been killed. Up to 2.5 million innocent civilians have been forced to flee their homes and now live in internally displaced-persons (IDP) camps in Sudan.

By supporting "Sudan Regrowth," you will be sustaining two projects:
The first is in the village of Nyamlel, where you will help fund an orphanage for 400 children that have fled as orphans, as well as provide care and rehabilitation for former sex slaves. This work provides all the necessities, including medical care and education.

The second is the relief efforts for those who have fled to the wild with no shelter. You will provide mosquito nets to prevent malaria, wells for clean water, tarps that serve as shelter from the elements, food, and desperately needed medication.

Two Rebel Groups have the political aim of compelling the government of Sudan to address underdevelopment and the political marginalization of the region of Darfur. In response, since early 2003, the Sudanese government's regular armed forces and the Janjaweed (gov’t backed militia) have targeted civilian populations and ethnic groups from which the rebels primarily draw their support. Please become an active part of the solution.

Collages

This is a collage I did either last spring semester or in the summer..... I can't remember. I just recently have sewn the photograph collage onto BFK paper leaving the thread strands to hang.

This is another one I did last spring. I took this diptych I printed and made a negative print, turned the negative print upside down and weaved it through the original positive print. The photograph was taken in Chattanooga near our race site on the river. A little boy was dancing to a street performer (drummer). The scanner did a poor job in scanning it, showing dust particles.

Sketch #1

Lately I've been experimenting with different marks and trying not to think to hard on what my hand does. These are a couple of sketches I've done on BFK paper. I really enjoy this paper and how graphite responds to it. It is also soft to the touch with almost a fabric feel to it yet has super strength and durability. You can tell that the edges are torn and not strait, which is another quality of this paper that I love. It tears so beautifully.

Just make a mark.

Baby Slings

okay.... 1) that is just hilarious (with the guy) and 2) I am totally getting one of these when ever I have kids.

Graffiti

Graffiti art has become world wide now, and I really look forward to how it will progress in the future. These pieces here are why I love it! It's just so expressive and "in the moment". They even have graffiti competitions now. I think it is so interesting how this art which is often looked down at has turned into something positive. It makes a statement, and people always look at it. You can't help but to look at.

I remember going to Philly while traveling to the regatta there and seeing the different graffiti work done on buildings and they are absolutely amazing. It's really cool seeing them up close and personal. It is truly an art that takes some true talent to accomplish.

Thomas Campbell

Artist: Thomas Campbell

This guy is a self taught painter. He does amazing work with design and color placement. His work is very broad as you can see just by seeing the images. He does a lot of designs that relate to surfers and surfing. That style I guess, very colorful and loud. I really like what he does and the fact that he experiments with so many different medias. Paint, fabric, ink, paper, and different sculpture materials (metal, wood, etc.)

He is someone that I can not stop looking up his website and checking out all his works.

Check out his website here: www.thomascampbell-art.com
